Chicago Fire put in a great performance to defeat the Portland Timbers. This was a major game that was going to determine who would be at the top of the play off standings. As it so happened, the Fire came out of the blocks with all guns blazing and just ended up having too much for the Timbers. While the Timbers put up a very valiant effort and contributed a great deal to the game, they were always going to end up coming second best. They just did not have the quality in the final third to keep up with the Chicago Fire.

There may be bigger tests out there for the Fire, but for now they can only beat what is put out in front of them. They have certainly done a fantastic job of that and they have managed to really put in a good performance in front of their fans. They have shown that they mean business and they want to go all the way and win the MLS Cup. The LA Galaxy may have something to say about that, but the Fire certainly look like they are the team to beat. They could definitely go all the way to MLS glory.

With things heating up in the MLS this season, all wins are vital, and one loss can cost a team a place in the playoffs, hoping to make it to the finals. This past week the Columbus Crew had a great week, picking up a couple key victories, and giving the team a much needed boost of confidence. After a sub-par past couple weeks in play, the team had come off two ties in their previous two matches. However, this week they took a couple victories, bringing them up in the standings, and getting them closer to the playoff picture, and hopefully a top spot in the standings.

On the opposite end, the Chicago Fire took a tie, and one loss this past week, and although they are pretty high up in the standings, with other teams out performing them, they are going to have to step up their game in the upcoming weeks, especially with a tough schedule ahead of them for the remainder of the month. With so many teams playing well, and the standings being very close, both teams are going to have to step up their game, and start pulling the victories, in order to reach the playoffs.

For the Philadelphia Union squad, having had Freddy Adu, the young superstar phenom play for the team the past few years has really given them a boost. Not only the team, but the fans have appreciated the skill he brought, and the passion he brought on the field. But, recently Adu has made the decision to leave the team, and consider going overseas, looking for tougher competition to compete against, and really improve his skill set against the foreign players. Many MLS players eventually make this trip either to Europe, or South American leagues, where there is much more competition, and the games are much tougher to play in.

So, Adu has decided to join these leagues, in hopes of building up his strength, and hopefully becoming a better player, not just for the US in the upcoming 2014 World Cup, but in hopes of improving his overall game for whatever league he lands in. So, although fans are sad to see the young star leave the Union, they are thankful for the great seasons he has put in, and can’t wait to see him compete for the US when the 2014 cup rolls around, and really offer the best performance.More info here: Freddy Adu took Jurgen Klinsmann’s advice in choosing Major League Soccer

In their recent game against the Colorado Rapids, the LA Galaxy put up a fight, and ended the game on the winning side with a 1 to 0 score, after superstar Donovan Landon made the winning goal with minutes remaining on the clock. After a tight matchup all game long, both teams showed signs of brilliance, but the Galaxy played well the entire game through, but missed a few key shots on goal. However, when it really counted, senior scorer Donovan Landon was able to pull off the winning goal, and send the team up 1 to 0, and took the game.

The team had excellent shots on goal the entire game, several corner shots that were on point, and great penalty opportunities, but just were not able to put the ball in the net throughout the first half, and for about 38 minutes of the second half. Landon got a great assist and at close to 39 minutes of the second half, scored the games only goal, to put his team ahead, and take the victory. Although the score didn’t show it, the team put up an excellent performance throughout, and managed the victory with only minutes left in the game.
